WORKSHOP 2019

FABRICATION has many interpretations, synonyms include :
invention, concoction, fiction, rumour, ‘flight of fancy’, tall tale,
‘figment of the imagination’ ……..

FABRICATION is : creation, production, construction, fashioning, contriving, modelling,
forging ……….

FABRICATION can be further embellished with :

  • recontextualising an existing image/design to give new meaning.

  • repurposing the existing object to give it new meaning.

  • deconstruction and reconstruction.

  • nothing to something.

  • basics of design and composition.

  • expand the participants’ perception and understanding of design.

  • integration of visual verbal to create a narrative employing various techniques and

       metaphors.

2 DAY WORKSHOP - 2019

Merrin Glasgow will present a workshop encompassing

the concept of ‘fabrication’.
The purpose behind the weekend workshop is twofold :

Firstly, to introduce, demonstrate and facilitate

participants with the concept of “FABRICATION” employing

fabric and textiles as the “launch pad”.

Day ONE Introduction and implementation of techniques

that facilitate fabrication.
Expand the participants’ perception and understanding

of design and composition.

Day TWO Application and practice of knowledge to compose

a visual verbal narrative;
an artist’s book, connecting the tiny bits we have gathered

along the way......

An artist’s book can be short, long, finite, ongoing.
It may present as a scroll, accordion, be folded, rolled, flat, suspended,
double/single sided and more with the intention to be submitted in the
2019 Up2date Art Exhibition.

Techniques demonstrated include :

  • photo release / transfer of existing image

  • mono and block printing

  • drawing / painting on fabric with textile resources

  • manipulation of existing textiles through embroidery

  • applique

  • “drawing" with needle and thread

  • layering the afore mentioned techniques

  • drawing and painting with textile friendly resources

Details of workshop will be published at a further date.

SAVE THE DATE : Weekend of the 1st and 2nd June, 2019.
